The Black Women Lawyers’ Association (BWLA) invites you to celebrate our 25th Anniversary during our 2012 National Summit of Black Women Lawyers (National Summit), a three-day event capturing the variety and experience of black women in the legal profession.
Meet, network and fellowship with black women lawyers from all across the country and from every sphere of the legal profession. Earn CLE credit during two days of informative sessions featuring distinguished speakers from around the country, including renowned corporate counsel, attorneys from law firms, judges, law professional, health professional and image consultants. Then, celebrate in style at BWLA’s 25th Anniversary Gala.
National Summit attendees will have the opportunity to select from our varied programming of career development, trends in diversity in the legal professional, health and wellness as well as provide substantive practice development in areas including corporate law, litigation, employment law and intellectual property.

- Where and when is this year's National Summit?
The 2012 National Summit of Black Women Lawyers ("National Summit") will be held April 12-14, 2012 at the Hyatt Regency on the Riverwalk in Chicago, IL. More detailed information about the upcoming conference, including registration and hotel information can be found here.
- How can I register for the conference?
We strongly recommend that you register online at www.bwla.org. Conference updates will be posted online and transmitted to attendees via e-mail. You can also mail your registration to the address on the program brochure.
- How do I know if I should pay the member or non-member rate for the conference?
If you paid BWLA’s annual member dues of $75 for the current membership year, you are entitled to the member registration price.
- If I am a confirmed speaker at the conference, do I need to register for the conference?
No. BWLA’s Travel Committee will contact you to arrange for your travel.
- Do I need to book my hotel room and make my own travel arrangements as an attendee?
Yes. Hotel: If you registered for the Summit + Hotel Package – you do not need to book your own hotel reservation. BWLA will take care of your hotel reservation at the Hyatt Regency and you will receive a room reservation confirmation from BWLA.
Travel: All attendees are required to book their own travel to Chicago. With its central location, Chicago provides many travel options. Chicago is served by O’Hare International Airport and Midway Airport. Both airports are roughly the same distance to the Hyatt Regency Hotel.
- What part of town is the conference hotel located in?
The Hyatt Regency Chicago is conveniently located in Chicago’s downtown area. The hotel is within a short walk to world class restaurants, shopping and cultural attractions.
- How do I get to the Summit from the local airport?
There are two airports in the Chicagoland area.
- If you are flying into O’Hare Airport here are your options:
- Taxi: Upon arrival you can take a taxi from the airport to the Hyatt Regency Chicago, 151 E. Wacker Drive, Chicago, IL 60601. A taxi will cost $30/35 and there is an additional $1 per extra person.
- Public Transportation: The CTA is conveniently located at O’Hare airport and you can take the Blue Line towards Forest Park, get off at Clark/Lake and walk .5 miles to Hyatt Regency.
- Hotel Shuttle: Go Airport Express which runs every 10 minutes. One-way $29 Roundtrip $53. To make reservations please call (773)-247-1200.
- If you are flying into Midway Airport here are your options:
- Taxi: Upon arrival you can take a taxi from the airport to the Hyatt Regency Chicago, 151 E Wacker Drive, Chicago, IL 60601. A taxi will cost $30/35 and there is an additional $1 per extra person.
- Public Transportation: The CTA is conveniently located at Midway Airport and you can take the Orange Line towards Loop, get off at State/Lake and walk .4 miles to Hyatt Regency.
- Hotel Shuttle: Go Airport Express which runs every 10 minutes. One-way $20 Roundtrip $37. To make reservations please call (773)-247-1200.
How do I get to the hotel from Amtrak?
Amtrak is located at Chicago’s Union Station. You can take a taxi for about $10 or the CTA bus number 124, 151 or 157 or CTA orange line train toward Loop, get off on State/Lake.
How is the weather in Chicago in April?
We’re going to level with you here. The weather in Chicago in April is, shall we say, variable. Historically the weather has been in the 50s. However, Chicago weather can be unpredictable so check the forecast and then pack some versatile clothing.
What is the dress code?
The dress code is business or business casual. The 25th Anniversary Gala Dinner is black-tie requested.
Can I receive CLE credits for this Summit?
- CLE credit is pending. Currently, 7.5 - 8 credit hours are eligible for CLE. BWLA will assist attendees in securing CLE credit.
